The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to serving the most vulnerable, handing over essential humanitarian aid to Zimbabwean returnees in Bulawayo on 10 July 2026.
The donation, made through ZCC General Secretary Rev. Dr. Wilfred Dimingu, included mealie meal, cooking oil, rice, flour, sugar, peanut butter, blankets, buckets, soap, toiletries, sanitary wear, diapers, children’s clothing and other basic supplies. The aim is to help families returning from South Africa restart their lives with dignity.
The handover ceremony was attended by Hon. Judith Ncube, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province. Her presence underscored the growing partnership between Government and the Church in responding to humanitarian needs.
Speaking at the event, Rev. Dimingu thanked government for creating space for the Church to serve alongside national efforts.
“As the Church, we are the first to kneel and the last to stand,” he said. “We remain present before, during, and after times of crisis.”
He called on all ZCC member churches to mobilize resources to support the response, urging Zimbabweans to welcome returnees with compassion.
“This is an opportunity for us to rediscover ourselves as one people, united in faith, love, and shared responsibility as we rebuild lives and strengthen communities together,” Rev. Dimingu added.
The ZCC said the intervention complements Government efforts to provide a dignified reception for citizens coming home.
Quoting Matthew 25:35, Rev. Dimingu reminded congregants of the Church’s mandate: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.”
The handover formed part of ZCC’s continued mission to serve communities with compassion and uphold the dignity of every returning citizen.
