Youths in Mt. Darwin have gathered on the 25th of May at Mavhuradonha Wilderness Camp to celebrate Africa Day through the youth outing organized by Evangelist Nyasha Ruzive with the aim of bringing young people together, to teach them about the rich, diverse African cultures and heritage and how to preserve them.
Some of the events that have been lined up for the celebrations include career guidance, empowerment lectures and counseling sessions.
Running under the theme “A purpose driven life”, youths have been challenged to be responsible of their communities since they are the leaders of tomorrow and to work very hard for a better living despite the economic challenges that might be prevailing in the country.
In his message to the youths, the organizer Evangelist Ruzive said “The future of our continent is in the hands of you the youth so you need to be very responsible. Be careful of the decisions and actions that you take in life to see how do they affect your surroundings and the nation at large. Once you see that your input is not contributing any positive to the community it means you should abandon that.
“So, we are gathered here to celebrate a special day for us as Africans. We are blessed in our continent with many resources so as young people we should be stewards of them and use them in an appropriate way.
“The other thing that I want to enlighten you on is that as a youth do not become a victim of peer pressure. Do not just imitate what others are doing but as an individual set your principles and stick to them. Above all as young people let us shun drugs and sexual filthiness,” said Ruzive.
Meanwhile, some of the youths who shared their experiences with the youth outing revealed that the session was impactful in guiding them along preserving the African moral fabric.
“As a young people today, I learnt that we should not abandon our good morals and values because of a change in social or technological trends but we should uphold good morals as Africans. For example, we were taught to be humble, to respect elders and to speak nice words,” said Moreblessing.
Sheky said “As youths we are at the stage of making decisions and choices and we really need guidance. So today it was a privilege to us, we were taught to make right decisions especially when choosing a life partner. The main message around that was about choosing a life partner who is grounded in good values and morals and also one who understands that marriage is not a game but a lifetime thing, thus marring someone with a vision and determination,” he said

Africa Day 2025 was celebrated under the theme “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations”. The theme, adopted by the African Union (AU), aims to promote justice, equality, and solidarity among African nations and people of African descent worldwide.
