Five-year old child advocate who is also the Mr Toto Africa Zimbabwe 2025 King Epikaizo Mushunje has donated 100 sanitary wears to Teen Rescue Mission (TRM), at the handover ceremony which took place at Joina City in Harare on 24 September 2025.
The donation complements to TRM’s pad-drive which aims at raising more than 2000 sanitary wear which is expected to be distributed to underprivileged young girls on 11 October 2025 during the International Day of The Girl Child commemorations.
In his remarks during the handover ceremony, Mushunje expressed his heartfelt support for young girls who are failing to access simple sanitary wear saying that his heart desires to stand with his sisters and to see them accessing education without any hinderance.
“As Mr Toto Africa Zimbabwe 2025, I am donating this sanitary wear to my big sisters so that they can have something to use during their monthly menstrual periods,” he said.
Mushunje’s manager, Mrs Matunhira “Doc Chichi” has called upon communities to join hands together towards empowering the girl child and creating safe environments the promote the rights of the girl child.
“The reason why we are here today is that we want to restore confidence and dignity in the girl child. We have seen that some girls do not afford sanitary wear and as a result some are missing lessons especially during their monthly periods so i am confident that this support is going to hep address that challenge for the girl child.
“As the International Day of The Girl Child is fast approaching, we call upon communities to take a lead in empowering the girl child. Let us create opportunities for the girl child and in case that there is any injustice happening for the girl child, let us expose it,” she said.
Meanwhile, TRM development practitioner Miriam Ganda welcomed the donation and expressed her gratitude to the gesture saying that it will go a long way in addressing period poverty among young girls.
“We are so grateful for the generous gesture, it is a sign that we are all speaking with one strong voice of empowering the girl child.
“As TRM we take pride in helping young people and with this donation we are going to have more security for our young girls, they will be able to go to school with confidence,” she said.
