A sombre mood has fallen over the United Methodist Church following the sudden death of Reverend Oswell Kaseke, District Superintendent for Harare Central District, who tragically lost his life in a road accident on Wednesday, 12 November 2025.
The fatal collision occurred at the Chivake River Bridge along the Harare–Nyamapanda Highway, claiming the lives of Rev Kaseke and four others, including a young student who had recently completed her Grade 7 examinations. The group was returning to Harare from Rev Kaseke’s rural home in Mutoko when their vehicle crashed into a stationary truck.
The tragic accident has also renewed concerns over road safety along the Harare–Nyamapanda Highway, an area notorious for fatal crashes, prompting calls for urgent intervention to prevent further loss of life.
As the church mourns this irreplaceable loss, the legacy of Reverend Oswell Kaseke remains a powerful testament to faithfulness, servant leadership, and a life wholly committed to God’s work.

On Friday night, during the funeral service, Reverend Shepherd Fusire delivered an impactful sermon titled *“Walk Faithfully”*, drawing inspiration from the Book of Jude. He likened Rev Kaseke’s life to that of Enoch, a man who “walked faithfully with God” (Jude 1:14-15), exemplifying unwavering commitment and preaching a pure, undiluted gospel.
Rev Fusire emphasised that, like Enoch, Rev Kaseke lived a life of consistent faith, grounded in love and dedicated service to God’s people. He urged the congregation to honour the late Reverend’s legacy by following his example of steadfast devotion and living the gospel with integrity.
“Rev Oswell Kaseke was a beacon of light, a true servant of God who preached the real gospel, not the prosperity gospel. His life challenges us all to remain faithful, serve with honesty, and walk humbly with our Creator,” Rev Fusire declared.
The message served as a strong reminder to all present of the importance of faithfulness in the Christian journey and inspired many to reflect deeply on their own walk with God.
