Renowned award-winning gospel musician minister Michael Mahendere, as the brand ambassador of Ecolus Energy this Friday pledged his full support to the empowerment of the girl child in the country saying that societies thrive when there is unity of people in spreading the message of hope and peace.

He said this during the handover ceremony of 1000 pads to the young people-led movement Teen Rescue Mission (TRM) which took place in Eastlea, Harare.

“As the brand ambassador of Ecolus Energy I am so honored to be part of this great initiative that is meant to empower the girl child. As a brand and as a gospel musician I am saying it’s a good initiative to support the girl child and we are in full support of it. I am so much excited that TRM aims to raise more than 2000 pads but Ecolus Energy has taken half of the target already. This alone shows that they have the desire to help the underprivileged members of the community through the corporate social responsibility.

“Today I am with the young advocates, TRM and Ecolus Energy to bring light to the girl child of our country, “said Mahendere

Speaking during the same ceremony, Ecolus Energy Managing Director Wadzanai Munzonga said that the gesture focuses on restoring young girls’ dignity, reducing the number of young girls who drop out from school and also to address issues of sexual exploitation.

“Some young girls are facing challenges to access the necessary sanitary wear and they end up missing lessons or being embarrassed during their monthly periods.

“So today we are very proud to join and support TRM’s drive in empowering the girl child, restoring their confidence and dignity. We are very confident that the donation will accomplish our desire to see every young girl thriving, “she said

Speaking after receiving the donation, TRM Director Abraham Matuka commended the gesture saying “Indeed our efforts have been supported in an extraordinary way. The donation will help to bring confidence to our young girls and give them light and hope for their future. When they are empowered they become responsible and able to make their decisions about life.

“We really appreciate your generous support to our campaign. We believe together we can empower the girl child and help them realize their full potential, “he said

Meanwhile Her Worship Zoe Ndoro the Junior Town clerk for Harare City Junior Council appreciated the intervention saying it will go a long way in saving young girls from relying and using unsafe and unhygienic materials during their monthly periods.

“In Zimbabwe , 72% of women and young girls do not afford a simple sanitary product. This compromises dignity of the group. It also means that these girls are also facing embarrassment over natural biological processes. This therefore leads them to risk their health with unsafe makeshift materials.

“So today we are excited as we express our gratitude to Ecolus Energy for their positive stance to end period poverty. As young girls we appreciate the gesture, “she said

The major boost came few weeks after Joina City also donated USD$500 towards the same cause.
