The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), together with the Gender and Faith Network (GFN), has joined the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development at the National International Women’s Day commemorations in Bindura to celebrate the achievements of women and reaffirm their commitment to gender justice.
The commemorations bring together government, faith-based organisations and community groups in recognising the important role women play in society while promoting equality, empowerment and protection of women’s rights.
As the world marks International Women’s Day and the entire Women’s Month, ZCC says its work continues to be guided by Christian values of dignity, equality and justice. The council is promoting women’s leadership, peacebuilding and the prevention of gender-based violence within communities.
As part of the celebrations, ZCC has established a Mobile Information Hub where members of the public can access information and engage with experts on key issues affecting women and families.
The hub is providing information on gender equality and constitutional protections, raising awareness on the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, and offering guidance on gender-based violence prevention, including confidential referral pathways for those seeking assistance.
Visitors can also receive information and participate in discussions on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), as well as programmes focusing on livelihoods and economic empowerment for women.
ZCC has invited members of the public to visit the Mobile Information Hub, interact with partners and become part of the growing movement advancing gender justice in Zimbabwe.
The organisation emphasised that Christian teachings call for unity, equality and respect for all people, referencing the biblical message in Galatians 3:28 which states: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
The council will continue sharing updates from the commemorations through its social media platforms as it encourages communities to join the ongoing conversations of hope and faith during Women’s Month.
