American gospel legend CeCe Winans made a debut performance in Harare late last month, engaging gospel music fans with her inspiring ministry. The Celebration Centre was transformed into a dynamic worship arena, setting the stage for an electrifying night that marked a milestone in Zimbabwe’s gospel music landscape.
The event began with an electrifying performance by local gospel superstar Janet Manyowa, who set the spiritual tone for the evening with her powerful vocals and ministry.
Manyowa’s soul-stirring performance created the perfect spiritual atmosphere, preparing the hearts of worshippers for the main act.
Concertgoers expressed overwhelming admiration for CeCe Winans’ performance.
Tanaka Maumbirwe said “CeCe Winans’ performance was truly inspiring. I felt so uplifted!” Meanwhile, Mildred Mhonika, reflecting the sentiments of many ordinary Zimbabweans, said, “I never thought we would see such a big gospel show here. It was very special.”
Tuesday night’s performance not only fulfilled the dreams of local gospel music enthusiasts, but also cemented Zimbabwe’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for international gospel artists.
The Harare stop was part of her global “More Than This” tour, which drew capacity crowds around the world.
The concert, organized by Events by GEC and Rorisang Thandekiso, the South African broadcaster, author, and speaker was part of the organizing team.
This marked her second major engagement in Zimbabwe, following her well-received role as host of the Kingdom World Tour by Maverick City Music in 2024.
According to Lyncolin Kapswara, Event Director at Events by GEC said
“What made the event unique was that it fell midweek, giving believers a special opportunity to gather on a Tuesday night and experienced something extraordinary. With CeCe Winans, Bonnie Deuschle, and Janet Manyowa sharing the platform, we were confident this will be one of the most memorable worship encounters Zimbabwe has ever witnessed.”
Kapswara added that the near sell-out status of the event reflects the strong appetite for gospel music in Zimbabwe, as well as the enduring appeal of Winans’ artistry.
For fans, the concert marks a rare opportunity to see the multi-Grammy Award-winning artist live in Harare.
Winans, widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in gospel music, is expected to perform selections from her acclaimed “More Than This” album along with classics that have defined her decades-long career.
