Christians had powerful Easter across the country

Starting with Holy Thursday followed with Good Friday, which was a day that saw the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

The Easter holiday is seen as a period of reflection and repentance and those of Christian belief use Good Friday to serve as a reminder of the crucifixion of their lord and saviour for their sins.

Those of the Anglican faith met for afternoon mass in reverence of Jesus Christ at their various parishes.

“The significance of Good Friday for the Anglican faith is because it is the day that our Lord Jesus Christ carried all our sins and was crucified to give us freedom. It is good because that is when we were freed,” said St Mary’s Anglican Church’s Father Alpha John.

“It is not that Jesus died over 2000 years ago, the significance comes up when we die together with him, we are not going to die physically, but we want to die from evil things,” said St Luke’s Anglican Church’s Father Edwin Seremani.

There was also a procession of Roman Catholics from different parishes who convened at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in the CBD.

“This is the first phase that we have walked and you have seen so many people in the procession throughout the Catholic churches, everywhere in the world as we journey with Christ in his journey to death where he carried the cross for the salvation of his people and for every one of us who are God’s children,” said Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church’ Father Adam Mukabva.

Pentecostal denominations also gathered for services celebrating the season which Christ was the chief reason for the season

“Easter ironically bad things happen to a good person. To us, the death of Jesus gives us great emancipation from sin. So we commemorate this day and are happy to be gathered here in this way,” said United Apostolic Faith Church’s Apostle Simba Takawira.
