AWARD-WINNING entrepreneurship coach Neddy Tanga recently told a Manford Underclass
session that the lack of vision and goals was a major contributor to failure in life.
The session ran under the theme “Set Yourself for Success”.
Coach Tanga said it was important for people to carefully choose their associations.
“Avoid people with negative energy who complain every day. If you’re not careful, you will
become like them. Avoid people with no vision and goals as they will lead you astray and
avoid people with no boundaries,” he said.
Coach Tanga said having a vision and goals was important as it helped one to stand strong
during difficult times.
“Life without goals is meaningless. You will miss so many opportunities because you don’t
know how to identify them. If you don’t have a vision, any little thing can detour you from
the main goal. A vision helps us stand strong when things get tough because we understand
that we haven’t reached the final destination, so we continue pushing,” she said.
“In life, we set ourselves for failure by procrastination, self-doubt, lack of confidence, so
today’s question is how can you set yourself up for success? Take time today to have one-
year, five-year and 10-year goals.”
The industrial engineer said it was crucial for one to find a mentor and an accountability
partner in order to succeed.
“My mentor always keeps me in check. She is someone I can text and be honest with when
it comes to my life. She doesn’t judge me but instead she helps me get through so many
things. I remember I was about to give up, but after talking to her, I felt better and here I
am. I graduated,” she said.
Coach Tanga said whenever she was working on a project, having someone following up on
her ensured that she continued pushing.
She said a lot of people suffered from stress because of the bad decisions they made.
“You know going to work late and not performing might cost you your job but you do it
anyway. This definitely affects our success because we are fire-fighting problems that we
could have avoided,” she said.
Coach Tanga said she was passionate about women and youth empowerment. She is the
founder of Connect with Mentors, an organisation that mainly focuses on mentorship and
career guidance. She is also a volunteer at Christ Ministries Children’s Home. She is a
former Vice president for Global Youth Toastmasters and has also worked with SayWhat.
