Most good men suffer in silence… Nijo the Slick Pastor speaks this Men’s Month

Zimbabwe’s celebrated socialite and comedian, Nijo The Slick Pastor real name, Nigel Maritinyu has taken a moment to record a short video on his social media, acknowledges the role of men in society and the family, noting that most good, responsible men suffer silently because of multiple responsibilities and tasks, yet they never abandon what they are tasked to do.

The deacon under ZAOGA church urges that mental counselling is of great value to them.

His message is resonating with the month of November, (Movember) when the global celebrate the positive impact men have in families and communities while also drawing attention to the health and mental‑health issues that many men face. The goal is to spark open conversation, reduce stigma, and encourage proactive care.

“Men are always on high alert. There are no off‑days; every day is a workday. So that burden they always carry. When they are at a party or function, people always look at them, needing them when a problem arises.”

“Every time, a man is always on high alert, to fix problems and pending issues. This causes men to think too much, to the extent that they end up isolating themselves from others. Because they are human, some pretend like they are seeing something whilst they are not, but they are thinking.”

“Man rarely has that moment of relaxing without thinking much, especially good men; only few have a negligent mind. Men are responsible for arranging things to do with funerals. They don’t even have time to cry, unlike women. When they encounter challenges, they don’t say it because of the judging society,” he said.

They believe in that mantra of saying _men were taught to be brave_; they don’t say anything. But it is an unrealistic world—this is the reason why there are more suicides amongst men than women. When things get worse, some men end up committing suicide without sharing the concern with others.

Meanwhile, one of the prominent preachers/influencers known for his short video clips on TikTok, Apostle Joe Daniels, in one of his preaching said,

“Men sometimes must be careful, especially those who have business or money, because there are some ladies who are around them trying to fake love while they want money. If they are not careful, they end up in jail. A man learns to be content with what he has as well.”

By dedicating a whole month to men’s issues, the campaign hopes to shift cultural narratives, lower the rates of preventable disease, and create a supportive environment where men feel safe to speak up about their struggles.
