An eight-year-old Zimbabwean Zimdancehall sensation making waves in the music scene Tafadzwa “Ngwere Diki” Gakaka has expressed the power of education to empower young people and unlock destinies, a clear message that calls for parents and guardians to invest in the education of young people amid the revelation that 250 million children and adolescents are out of school and 763 million adults being illiterate globally.
He made this call as the International Day of Education is fast approaching which is set to be commemorated on 24 January 2026 under the theme “The Power of Youth in Co-creating Education”. This theme highlights the crucial role young people play in shaping the future of education, emphasizing their involvement in decision-making processes and educational planning.
In his message, Ngwere Diki said that it is high time that today’s generation should embrace education as a transformational tool in life.
“The only message that I have for all the young people is that, education is key in life,”he said
The significance of this day lies in recognizing education as a fundamental human right and a key driver for sustainable development, peace, and global progress. It’s a time to reflect on progress made and challenges remaining, such as 250 million children and adolescents out of school and 763 million adults being illiterate.
Ngwere Diki is known for his mature lyrics, stage presence, and catchy chants. His hit songs like “Handidi Kurwadziswa” and “Vabereki Vangu” have gained massive popularity, especially among the youth.
His rise to fame started in Hopley, Harare, and he has been praised for his wisdom and talent beyond his years, Interestingly, he has been getting support from notable figures like Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei, who gifted him building materials for a house and pledged to fund his education.
