Palm Sunday has confirmed that despite their differences, they are one in belief and practice. Bible believing churches came together to celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem on his journey to save human kind.
Maintaining their different uniforms in the march bringing a colourful union in the streets with palm branches being waved and sing the same songs.

Palm Sunday in Zimbabwe has became an occasion of unity in various cities across the country as churches like Roman Catholic, The Salvation Army, The Lutheran Church, Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Presbyterian, and other churches united for procession in large numbers singing with great joy unity, enthusiasm jubilation marking the beginning of the Passion Week
In Gokwe, it was not only celebrated as triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem but was also an act of evangelism and powerful reminder of power of unity and collaboration among diverse religious communities
In a world characterised with divisions and discords, the ecumenical Palm Sunday procession stand as significant example of true gospel that we believe in one God, said Major Alice Zhakata of The Salvation Army.
Preaching at the Gokwe market center, Major Zhakata emphasised that the time is now that all are called to look unto God who is being celebrated as the chief reason of the season, Jesus who is getting into Jerusalem is coming to redeem all from bondages and give eternal life said Major Zhakata .
In Harare, Chitungwiza, Bulawayo and other cities, it was a splendid occasion which saw The Vice President of Zimbabwe Retired General Constantino Chiwenga and his wife Miniyothabo were among Catholics celebrating Palm Sunday in the center.
Palm Sunday being a Christian moveable feast that falls before Sunday and an event mentioned in each of the four canonical Gospels, the holiday is seen as a period of reflection and repentance and those of Christian belief
Those of the Anglican faith met in reverence of Jesus Christ at their various parishes.
“The significance of this season for the Anglican faith is Lord Jesus Christ carried all our sins and was crucified to give us freedom and we were freed,” said St Marys Anglican Church’s Father Alpha John.
“It is not that Jesus died 2 024 years ago, the significance comes up when we die together with him, we are not going to die physically, but we want to die from evil things,” said St Luke’s Anglican Church’s Father Edwin Seremani.
There was also a procession of Roman Catholics from different parishes who convened at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in the CBD.
“This is the first phase that we have walked and you have seen so many people in the procession throughout the Catholic churches, everywhere in the world as we journey welcoming Christ in our hearts representing Jerusalem for his journey to death where he carried the cross for the salvation of his people and for every one of us who are Gods children,” said Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church’ Father Adam Mukabva.
The Christian Easter festivities always begins with Palm Sunday which ushers the Holy Week that brings with it Good Friday, Easter Saturday, and the highlight being Easter Sunday which is celebrated in acknowledgement of their lord and Saviour Jesus Christ rising from the dead.
