Faith leaders have described fasting as a sacred ritual practice, a tool for spiritual warfare and an exercise to grow spiritually as it creates ample time to seek God’s glory.
It has become a norm for the body of Christ to begin a new year with days of prayer and fasting, with some going for 10, 31,40 and 90 days.
In his sermon, Heartfelt International Ministries President Apostle Tavonga Vutabwashe said that fasting empowers believers to control their territories and dominate.
“Do you know why you are weak and unable to control your territory, it is because you do not prioritize the principle of fasting.
“The devil is always harassing you and tormenting you because he do not eat. When we fast and seek God, we gain spiritual stamina to overcome spiritual battles, “said Vutabwashe
Mt. Darwin-based Evangelist Nyasha Ruzive expressed that fasting is one of the ways that believers get to sanctify themselves and to give God a room for him to align and direct his children.
“In Joshua 3:5, God spoke to Joshua to instruct people to sanctify themselves days before they crossed the river Jordan. As we begin our year a lot is on the line which requires the direction from God.
“Prayer and fasting allows us to give God the leading role in our lives as we begin the New Year. It prepares one’s heart to receive from God, and also the spirit to hear clearly from God, “said Ruzive
In addition, Heavenly Elect Saints Ambassadors (HESA) President Apostle Rodney Gabriel Rupiya said that fasting is necessary in the life of a believer as it leads to spiritual elevation.
“Fasting is an act that is physical but with a significant spiritual release. It is an act of revelation after believing that it yields a strong spiritual stamina.
“Particularly this life is less physical and more spiritual. So whoever has ambition to travel journeys has to embark on such ritual practices. It suppresses the mortal man inorder to quicken the spirit man, “he said
In Mathew 4, when Jesus had fasted for 40 days the devil appeared to tempt him but he overcame by the word of God and the strength that he had acquired through fasting.
The scripture has been widely used in the body of Christ to encourage believers to go on fasting as a way of growing in faith, gaining dominance against the world of darkness and temptations.
