In the vibrant landscape of Zimbabwe’s music scene, a new luminary has emerged, casting a radiant glow of soulful melodies and inspiring lyrics that captivate the hearts of music enthusiasts. Meet Timothy Makanga, a gifted gospel jazz musician whose exceptional skill on multiple instruments, including the trumpet, bass guitar, saxophone, acoustic, and piano, is leaving an indelible mark on the music industry. As a rising gospel jazz musician, Timothy’s musical prowess is a testament to his dedication to his craft, and his passion for music is palpable in every note he plays. With a level of virtuosity that is nothing short of breathtaking, Timothy wields the trumpet like a seasoned maestro, coaxing forth a wide range of tonal colors and emotive phrasings that leave listeners in awe. His trumpet playing is a testament to his deep understanding of the instrument’s capabilities and his ability to harness its expressive potential to convey the depths of his musical vision.

Timothy’s musical background is rooted in his education at African University, where he honed his skills through collaborations with various groups, including Worship Live from Mozambique, Peace Gospel, and Africa Revenge. These experiences have helped shape his unique sound, blending gospel and jazz elements in a way that resonates with audiences and lifts their spirits. Jazz music, with its rich history, has a unique ability to capture the audience’s attention and touch their hearts and souls. It is a genre that thrives on creativity, spontaneity, and emotional expression, making it a powerful tool for musicians like Timothy Makanga to connect with their listeners on a deeper level.

Through his music, Timothy is able to convey messages of hope, love, and inspiration, touching the hearts of many and leaving a lasting impact on their lives. The discovery of Timothy’s musical talent is attributed to Mr. Chakanetsa at Dzivarasekwa, who recognized his potential and encouraged him to pursue his passion. Timothy also expresses gratitude to his mentor, Mr. Clemency Simon, who played a significant role in shaping his musical journey. With a heart full of gratitude, Timothy shares his story, inspiring others to follow their dreams and pursue their passions.

By profession, Timothy is a music tutor who has taught at several primary schools, nurturing young musical talents and inspiring the next generation of musicians. In his spare time, he lends his expertise to upcoming musicians at various churches, further solidifying his commitment to music development. His selflessness and dedication to helping others have made a significant impact in his community, particularly in Bindura town, where he has helped numerous young people develop their musical talents and discover their potential.

In an exclusive interview with this reporter, Timothy’s mother, Major Emmah Makanga, shared her journey of supporting her son’s passion for music. Initially hesitant, she eventually gave her blessing for Timothy to pursue music full-time. A turning point came when Timothy’s students from Chancellor School in Manicaland showcased their talents, impressing Major Makanga and prompting her to provide emotional support and encouragement. She now prays that God will use Timothy’s music to minister to others, bringing joy, hope, and inspiration to all who listen.

Major Makanga also emphasized the importance of parental support in nurturing children’s talents, stating, “As parents, we should support our children in their chosen fields of excellence. While academic achievement is important, it’s equally crucial to recognize and nurture talents in sports, arts, and other areas. By doing so, we can unlock their full potential and empower them to make a meaningful contribution to society.”

As the Bible says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord” (Psalm 150:6), and Timothy’s music is a beautiful expression of praise and worship, filling hearts with joy and souls with purpose. With every note, he plays, and every song he sings, Timothy Makanga is spreading love, hope
