ZIMURA emphasised the importance of attendance for both members and non-members of the association, as well as business owners within the music industry.

The workshops, scheduled across various regions, will kick off in Manicaland Mutare on March 12th and conclude in Matabeleland South Gwanda on November 20th.

Here is the detailed schedule

  • In March, the province of Manicaland will host its event in the city of Mutare on the 12th.
  • Following shortly after, on the 27th of March, the city of Gweru in the Midlands province will welcome attendees to its gathering.
  • Moving on to May, the spotlight will be on Masvingo, as it holds its event in its namesake city on the 23rd.

  • As the year progresses, Matabeleland North will come alive with its event set against the backdrop of the majestic Victoria Falls on the 26th of June.
  • In July, the vibrant city of Bulawayo will play host to its event on the 25th, showcasing its rich cultural heritage.
  • The capital city, Harare, will take centre stage on the 7th of August, bringing together participants from across the nation.

  • As summer fades into autumn, Chinhoyi in Mashonaland West will hold its gathering on the 28th of August, followed by Marondera in Mashonaland East on the 25th of September.
  • October will see Bindura in Mashonaland Central welcoming attendees to its event on the 23rd.
  • Wrapping up the year, the province of Matabeleland South will close the series of events with its gathering in Gwanda on the 20th of November.

With venues to be announced, the workshops aim to equip musicians with a better understanding of music copyright and related issues, fostering ethical and legal practices within the industry.

By informing artists about copyright laws and infringement prevention, ZIMURA seeks to safeguard their intellectual property rights while promoting responsible usage of copyrighted materials.

The initiative comes in response to recent copyright violation incidents, exemplified by gospel musician Pastor Charles Charamba’s complaint to YouTube, resulting in the removal of Jah Signal’s music video “Sweetie,” which had amassed millions of views.

Such cases highlight the critical need for awareness and adherence to copyright laws to protect the interests of artists and ensure fair and respectful treatment within the music community.
