The best legacy a father can leave for a family is the genuine knowledge and acknowledgement of God as the source of everything in a family, apart from the wealth we can amass for them which can be elusive and misleading, Colonel Samuel Baah, Territorial Commander, Malawi Territory, has said as he encouraged men to take charge of family priestly duties during the Zimbabwe Territorial Men’s Rally held from 10-13 July 2025 at Chombira mountain in Chiweshe.
‘The concept of a fatherly priesthood, where a father acts as a spiritual leader within his family, The father is a spiritual hub of the family. Apart from feeding and clothing them physically, we also need to feed and clothe them spiritually through sharing of the word of God. We have a charge to keep, and we should commit our lives to God to guide us in this matter.,.
“Every morning, I send devotionals every day to my family because I am the family priest and as the father of the family,” said Colonel Samuel Baah.
Men are special people who God has in his divine plan from a family level, a responsibility which all men must embrace. 1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
There are men in the Bible who did well on taking priestly duties including Job. Job did well as a family priest because he, “would rise early morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all,” (Job 1:5). Job was regular in doing so. We must emulate such heroes in the Bible.
The father has the responsibility of teaching their children God’s law and instilling moral and spiritual values in his children. Proverbs 3:1 says, “My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart.”
Fathers should bless their children as we see in the Old Testament. Isaac blessed Jacob, not only as a verbal affirmation, but symbolized the passing on of inheritance, spiritual guidance, and God’s favour. (Genesis 27). In Genesis 48 and 49 we see Jacob blessing his children and grand children.
To be successful, fathers should seek guidance from God constantly and consistently so that offer divine, social, moral, physical protection. This is very necessary because today’s families need guidance as the evil vices are taking toll. In appreciation of this great lesson on priesthood in the family, Mr. Lancelot Chamboko of Glendale Corps said,” This teaching has come at the right time when we are seeing families
