Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe (EFZ) and Teen Rescue Mission (TRM) have jointly organised vigorous anti-drug and substance abuse prayer event aimed at addressing a worrisome surge of cases of drug and substance, youth crimes and teen pregnancy in the country.
Speaking ahead of the prayer event which will take place on 14 March 2026, TRM visionary and stirring coordinator, Director Abraham Matuka has reiterated that drug issues are not just physical but also spiritual.
‘’In as much as have been doing road shows symposiums towards the same vision of alleviating drug and substance abuse, we should also take a spiritual approach. Some young people are getting into drugs because of negative spiritual influences.
‘’We believe that spending time in prayer, sharing God’s word and testimonies, will go a long way in causing other young people change their minds to become productive, so, let us all come and lift our hands in prayer for a young people and country.’’ He said.
He also highlighted on some of the events that will be taking place during the day.
‘’There is going to be a lot of activities on the day including sharing of the word from the young people and faith leaders, prayer sessions, praise and worship as well as education about the dangers of drug and substance abuse from the experts.
‘’Also, we have requested for those who will come to bring empty bottles so that we will burn them as a sign of celebrating victory. Engagements with various stakeholders are still going on so that we stand together for this great event. We expect to be having parties like Chitungwiza Municipality, Zimbabwe Republic Police, women interdenominational, parents and government officials in attendance,’’ he said.
The event will take place at Seke Teachers College on 14 March 2026 under the theme ‘’Lifting up hands in prayer against drug abuse.’’
