A powerful prayer event in Chitungwiza, organised by Teen Rescue Mission (TRM) and the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe (EFZ) on Saturday 14 March 2026 brought together people of all ages to seek divine intervention in addressing the growing challenge of drug and substance abuse among young people.
TRM Director, Abraham Matuka, highlighted the urgent need for collective action, citing a continuous rise in youth drug abuse.
“The fight against drugs is also spiritual, hence we need to act from all angles,” he said, praising the unity and turnout at the event.
EFZ’s Apostle Benson hailed the mission, saying, “We are tired of this drug thing, now that we have to pray,, God will hear us and answer us,” he said.
Guest speakers, including corporate leader Cynthia Muzira and Pastor Chisoma, urged youths to stay focused and committed to building a better future, while Zimbabwe Republic Police Chaplain Mercy Mabika warned of the dangers of substance abuse.
Senator Omega Hungwe’s representative, Rev Chiviru, hailed TRM’s initiative, saying, “Prayer is a powerful tool in addressing social challenges.”
The event concluded with burning of empty bottles of drugs and a strong call for continued prayer and action against drug abuse, with community members expressing appreciation and requesting similar gatherings nationwide.
