First Lady Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa Takes Cancer and Cholera Awareness to Gokwe South
Cervical and breast cancer screenings were at the forefront of the initiative, with Dr. Mnangagwa emphasizing the alarming statistic that nearly half of cervical cancers occur in unscreened women. In Africa, cervical cancer ranks as the most prevalent cancer among women, constituting 33.4% of all cancers affecting women in Zimbabwe.
Addressing concerns raised by women in Gokwe through her toll-free number, the First Lady highlighted that some churches discourage women from seeking healthcare services. To counter this, she organized a free screening program to encourage early detection and treatment.
Additionally, Dr. Mnangagwa utilized the opportunity to spearhead a cholera awareness campaign. She urged women to adopt hygienic practices such as thorough handwashing, using treated water for consumption, and proper disposal of used diapers.
The First Lady’s visit aimed not only to provide immediate health solutions but also to foster a proactive approach to combating prevalent health issues in Gokwe South.
