In a remarkable display of community support, hundreds of patients in Epworth received free eye treatment this past Saturday, thanks to a collaborative effort between Vision Arcade Eye Care Foundation and Tongai Nyika Trust.

Held at Domboramwari Primary School, the event provided much-needed eye testing and treatment to individuals from both urban and rural areas, with beneficiaries traveling from as far as Masvingo to seek assistance.

The initiative, structured as a Private Public Partnership, aimed to address the pressing need for accessible eye care services, particularly among those who lack the financial means to seek treatment.

Patients expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity, citing the professionalism of the doctors and the tangible impact on their lives.

One beneficiary remarked, “We thought it was a joke, but I later realized it’s true after witnessing the treatment of my neighbor. I am very glad that the government has come up with such an alternative.”

Others echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of continued efforts to address eye health issues across the country.

Vision Arcade Eye Care Foundation team leader, Mr. Edwin Etefia, highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting the increasing prevalence of eye diseases, particularly among young people.

He emphasized the foundation’s commitment to serving the needs of the community and expressed gratitude for the partnership with Tongai Nyika Trust.

Honourable Tongai Mnangagwa, Member of Parliament for Hunyani Constituency, commended the initiative’s impact on marginalized communities and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding access to eye care services nationwide.

Through the partnership, residents not only received free eye drops and prescription glasses but also benefited from sponsored cataract surgeries, ensuring comprehensive care for those in need.

As efforts continue to expand access to essential services, individuals across Zimbabwe can look forward to a brighter future with improved eye health and well-being.
