In a powerful display of unity, hundreds of congregants from various mainline churches in Highfield gathered to celebrate Palm Sunday, commemorating the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem and marking the beginning of Holy Week.
The event highlighted the true meaning of unity in Christ, as participants came together not only in worship but also to address pressing social issues such as drug abuse. The gathering fostered fellowship aimed at driving positive change within families, churches, and the broader community.
The procession brought together men and women from different denominations, emphasizing the importance of collective action and mutual support. Church leaders delivered messages encouraging productive community initiatives and promoting hope, renewal, and a Christ-centered life.

The procession began at the Highfield Lutheran Church and moved through Machipisa Shopping Centre, where members of the clergy paused to preach about the significance of Palm Sunday. They urged community members to turn to God and leave behind lives not centered on Christ.
Rev. Canon Mukwenha of St. Paul’s Anglican Highfield Parish said, “The ecumenical Palm Sunday highlights the true meaning of being all for Christ. Today, we are also addressing issues such as drug abuse, encouraging young people to live Christ-centered lives. We are bringing men and women together in fellowship to unite for productive initiatives that will benefit families, the Church, and the community at large.”

Richard Majuta of St. Mary’s Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church stressed that the event marks the beginning of continued collaboration. “This is not the end, but the beginning of a united way of worship. We will come together in various spiritual programs and church initiatives to support one another in our Christian mission,” he said.
The event ultimately showcased the strength of ecumenical cooperation in addressing societal challenges and building a more united and spiritually grounded community.
