“But ye, brethren,” addresses fellow believers, emphasising our shared identity in Christ and mutual responsibility to support and encourage one another. As members of God’s family, we are called to uplift each other, especially when the journey of doing good feels tiring.
“Be not weary in well doing,” urges us to persist in our efforts to do good, regardless of the challenges we may encounter. Weariness can set in when our efforts seem unnoticed, unappreciated, or when the fruits of our labour are delayed. However, this exhortation encourages us to keep going, trusting that our good deeds have value and purpose.
Reflecting on this verse, we recognize that perseverance in doing good is not just about our strength but about relying on God’s strength. Galatians 6:9 echoes this sentiment: “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Both verses assure us that our efforts will bear fruit in God’s timing if we do not give up.
In practical terms, this might mean continuing to serve others with kindness, pursuing justice, offering encouragement, or maintaining integrity in our daily actions, even when it’s difficult. It means trusting that God sees our efforts and that He is working through us to accomplish His purposes.
Today, let us draw strength from God and from one another to continue in well-doing. Let us encourage each other to stay the course, reminding ourselves that our labour in the Lord is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58). By persevering, we not only honour God but also become instruments of His love and grace in the world.
