Score Against Drug and Substance Abuse, youths warned

Do not be a burden to yourself, family and nation because none of these have the capacity to rescue you from the claws of drug and substance abuse, rather, be a blessing to your family in helping out family problems than being the problem, Major Liveson Mushayakarere, Chairperson, Zimbabwe Council of Churches, Magunje Chapter has said during  sport gala attended by over 160 youths, organized by Zimbabwe Council of Churches, Magunje Chapter held at The Salvation Army Charles Clack Primary School on 23 August 2025.

“Drugs are burdensome to yourself and too heavy to bear their effects. Your body and mind cannot manage drugs; they are too heavy. Your family can not afford to manage you or send you for rehabilitation because it is expensive. It is a burden to have drug addict in the family.

“The nation’s’ delivery system is grappling in leaps and bounds as it very costly to run such rehabilitation programmes. We are looking forward for the youths to actively participate in family and nation building, “he said.

Honourable Member of Parliament, Super Madiro, guest of honour, through his representative Mr Makochekanwa, encouraged the youths to be responsible as the nation depends on youths with a sound mind for nation building. Avoid being a burden to yourself and others because drugs can lead you into trouble.

“As a nation and constituency, we are open for projects for the youths. This is only possible when we have youths who are not drug addict to take up the challenge. In your family, strive to be a blessing and not a burden and source or trouble, “he said.

Youths were encouraged to abstain from taking drug so that they have a good future.

“We are troubled when we look at the youths today, we wonder whether you are going to be good and responsible fathers and mothers because the drugs are taking toll against you. Your health is at risk; your future is at risk. Which profession can you take with high drug level in your blood? As youths, I urge you to listen to the voice of reason so that you mold yourself for a better future,” said Mr Maponga, Village Head.

“A heathy youth is one that can make good choices in life. Drugs have a lot of influence because they shorten one’s life, impairs decision making process and exposes one to bad practices in life. We need not to spoil our youth period.

“To the drug peddlers, I think they must see and feel the impact of drugs and the best decision is not to avail the drugs to the youths and nation,” said Ronald.

“We have started a good thing and this should continue until we as youths see the effects and start talking against drug and substance abuse. We are looking forward for a further engagement that will see more of such campaigns taking place, drugs are not good for us as the youths. Sport is a powerful tool to promote our good health and sending the message that promote health lifestyles,” said Tafadzwa, Chairperson, ZCC Karoi.

Appreciation goes to Honorable Super Madiro, Councilor Chipangura, Magunje business community and Zimbabwe Council of Churches for providing refreshments.
