Zimbabweans around the world are celebrating the 44th Independence Day of the Republic of Zimbabwe with a renewed focus on unity, peace, and development.

Under the theme “Unity, Peace and Development towards Vision 2030,” this year’s celebrations reflect the nation’s aspirations for a prosperous future.

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches has issued a pastoral statement emphasizing the importance of inclusive and comprehensive dialogue in achieving national unity, peace, and development.

Quoting John 17 vs 21, the statement calls for all Zimbabweans to come together as one, echoing the sentiments of the theme for this year’s celebrations.

Reflecting on the progress made since gaining independence, the statement acknowledges the sacrifices made by past generations and commends the efforts of both citizens and law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace, particularly during the 2023 electoral period.

Despite challenges such as the current drought, the Church urges all stakeholders to work together to address these issues and ensure the well-being of all Zimbabweans.

Furthermore, the Church calls upon national authorities and citizens to mature as a nation, putting away “childish things” and embracing dialogue and engagement to tackle challenges such as strengthening democratic governance systems, addressing past hurts, responding to climate change-related disasters, and promoting an inclusive and just economy.

In addition to the pastoral statement, various events and activities are being held across the country to commemorate Independence Day.

These include cultural performances, parades, and speeches highlighting the achievements and aspirations of Zimbabwe as it looks towards Vision 2030.

As Zimbabweans come together to celebrate their nation’s independence, there is a sense of optimism and determination to overcome challenges and build a brighter future for all.

With unity, peace, and development as guiding principles, Zimbabwe is poised to realize its vision of prosperity and progress for generations to come.
