THE Salvation Army’s Bumhudzo Old People’s Home has received a major boost following a fundraising dinner which was hosted in Harare recently.
The event, which was meant to mobilise resources worth more than US$35,000 for the welfare of inmates and the resuscitation of the institution, was described as a success.

Speaking during the event, Greater Light Publishers operations director, Mr. Munei Nyoni, who was the guest of honour, said giving and philanthropic work was the heart of
Christianity and expressed zeal to assist humanity while calling for collective efforts towards the same cause.
“We are driven by Christian principles and we know that humanitarian work is important in our societies, that is why, as ZimGospel Masters, we have played a part in this initiative. We strongly believe that our $US1500 will make a difference to the home.”
Meanwhile, the Salvation Army Zimbabwe and Botswana territorial chief secretary Lt.
Colonel Tineyi Mambo saluted all those who attended the fundraising event saying that the gesture would go a long way in easing the burden faced by the old people’s home.
He encouraged well-wishers to continue in the positive direction of caring for the elderly through the institution.
“Your presence today means that you have Bumhudzo at heart. You have done a good thing today, not to people alone but to God as well. Let us share the burden and do this good thing together. May God bless you all. As The Salvation Army, we continue to care for the elderly,” Mambo said.
The old people’s home, which caters for destitutes, the ill and the elderly who are over 65 years was established on October 26, 1974. Currently, there are 26 beneficiaries including eight women and 18 men.

Some of the major projects which were aimed to be completed and resuscitated include a solar-powered water source, industrial gas stoves, an ambulance, laundry machine and the renovations of the buildings, including a hospital.
