Addressing the pressing issue of men’s responsibilities towards their families, the renowned preacher emphasised the importance of diligent work and the need for men to provide for their families in a message which was titled “Chengeta Mhuri Yako,” aimed to equip men with powerful insights as the world commemorates Father’s Day.

“We do not deny that things are changing, not only in the country but also in the church. We are addressing this in a church, because we are going to touch on some of the problems that we are encountering.”

Evangelist Marufu highlighted the changing dynamics in society, expressing concern over the increasing dominance of women in various spheres of life, including businesses and churches.

“It is sad that women are now dominating in every area, including churches, businesses, and all aspects of life. We now have so many men in this church who are not able to take care of their families,” he said.

He lamented the growing number of men who are unable to fulfil their roles as providers for their families, attributing this phenomenon to the shift in traditional gender roles.

Drawing from biblical principles, Evangelist Marufu emphasised that men have been entrusted with the responsibility of working to sustain themselves and their children. He underscored the adverse consequences of men resorting to criminal activities in a desperate bid to support their families due to unemployment or financial strain.

“There are principles which say that when God created man, he gave him a field to work. Unfortunately, some men are now involved in serious crimes against salvation to provide for the family,” said Evangelist Marufu.

He also recalled about the dedication of the elders who diligently worked in towns to provide for their families, highlighting the contrast with the current trend of men spending excessive time away from their families pursuing their own ambitions.

“How do you live in a town without access to food? I salute our elders; long ago, they came to the town just for work, and then on weekends, they went back to their villages, while their women stayed there with their children,” he said.

Furthermore, Evangelist Marufu addressed the alarming rise in divorce rates, attributing it to men neglecting their families and prioritising external pursuits over their marital responsibilities.

He stressed the importance of spending quality time with one’s wife to foster a strong and enduring relationship.

The preacher also directed his message to young boys, urging them to prepare themselves to be responsible providers for their future families. He expressed concern over the reluctance of young individuals to engage in productive activities, such as work, and their preference for leisure activities like television, despite their aspirations to marry.

“Young boys, you should prepare yourselves by providing what is necessary for a lady or wife to work, and for other matters. But these days, these young pupils don’t want to work; they spend most of their time watching TV instead of going out to work, yet they want to marry,” he concluded.
