Marrying out of pity a recipe for disaster says Pastor Faith Mabhaudhi

Pastor Faith Mabhaudhi Nyarambi of Faith Christian Media Centre cautioned on social media against marrying out of pity, emphasizing that it can lead to an unhappy and unfulfilling marriage.

“Marrying someone because you feel sorry for them isn’t a noble act; it’s a recipe for disaster. Pity is not a building block for a meaningful marriage! It won’t last. How long will you feel sorry for them? If you choose to marry for pity, you will end up trapped in a toxic and loveless marriage!”

She emphasized that love is the foundation of a strong marriage, cultivating emotional connection, respect, intimacy, commitment, and trust, as highlighted in 1 Corinthians 13:13.

“Love is essential in marriage. It fosters a deep emotional connection, respect, intimacy, commitment, and trust. Paul’s words to the Corinthians still ring out powerfully today: ‘But the greatest of these is love’ (1 Corinthians 13:13).”

“Love is the foundation that outlasts everything else! It’s the glue that holds relationships together,” she added.

Meanwhile, she cautioned that the person you pity today may initially be grateful, but will likely resent you in the future for not genuinely loving them. Therefore, she advised against marrying someone solely because they are a family friend, helped your family in times of need, or come highly recommended. Instead, find alternative, legitimate ways to show your appreciation – marriage should not be one of them.
