God did not create mankind without purpose or reason. God has a plan for mankind, a story that stretches from the book of Genesis to Revelations that can be divided in for important parts that are
- We are made for fellowship relationship with God.
God is complete in his triune nature, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. It is God’s originating idea of creating mankind in his own image and let the rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, and over the livestock and all over the earth, and all the creatures that move along the ground. (Genesis 1:26). We see God’s unconditional love when giving Adam dominion over what God himself had created. Adam did not participate in the creation process but God is entrusting such responsibilities on Adam, what great love our God has for his Adam, love and entrusting a stewardship role is how he relates with Adam.
Indeed, Adam was created from earth and a breath of God, the soul, a God being, gave Adam life. This gave God and Adam a spiritual relationship. Meaning Adam has a relationship with God and earth where he came from.
God saw Adam’s loneliness and created Eve from the rib of Adam, the first divine operation. Eve was created to compliment the being Adam’s loneliness, what a divine relationship between Adam and Eve.
After God created Adam and Eve and saw that it was good. God appreciated the work of his hand and purpose. God appreciated the perfectness of the idea and intended purpose.
A Garden of Eden rich in flora and fauna was made for Adam. God gave the responsibility to Adam to name all trees and animals, thereby giving Adam dominion over God’s creation. God said,’ I give you every seed bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food’’ (Genesis 1: 29).
God wanted Adam to relate with him (God), Eve, Adam himself, garden, and animals.
God wanted a daily face to face relationship with God hence God would visit Adam in the Garden daily for fellowship. Obedience was the code of conduct and contact.
God wanted Adam to relate to himself. In obedience Adam and Eve were peaceful in their hearts and would face God without shame as God visited them in the garden. Adam had a peaceful relationship with himself,
God wanted Adam to relate well with Eve as a companion in life, Adam was pleased when he saw Eve and exclaimed, ‘’This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh she shall be called ‘woman’ for she was taken out of man, (Genesis 2:23) Genesis 2:24 categorically emphasise how Adam should relate with Eve. … a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and they will become one flesh.’’ A divine instruction of procreation was given, ‘’Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. (Genesis 1:28).
God wanted Adam to relate with the garden and was given the responsibility to name every tree and work the garden. As Genesis 2:15 says, ’’The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.’’ It is in this garden in which God commanded Adam on a free will basis to choose what is right so as to live or disobey and surely die (Genesis 2:17).
God wanted Adam to relate with animals. God said, ‘And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground- everything that has the breath of life in it- I give every green plant for food.’’ (Genesis 1:30).
The challenge to us today is that God expects to relate well with him, self, others and environment. This is because God’s intention with Adam was relationship, trust and companionship.
(Expect part 2 of God’s plan for mankind.)
