The City of Harare is strengthening its bond with church leaders, recognizing the pivotal role faith-based organizations play in shaping the city’s moral fabric.
At a meeting held at the City Sports Centre in Harare on 12 May 2026, Deputy Mayor Cllr Rosemary Muronda emphasized the importance of collaboration, saying, “Sustainable urban development cannot be achieved by local authorities alone,” she said.
The Church, with its far-reaching influence, is seen as a key partner in promoting positive change and civic responsibility.
Bishop Dr Christopher Choto of the Zimbabwe Christian Ministers Association (ZCMA) echoed this sentiment, highlighting the church’s mission to guide society while respecting city laws.
“Our work complements the efforts of the council in building a city that is not only physically developed, but also morally grounded and socially cohesive,” said Choto.
The discussions touched on practical issues like land acquisition, swimming pool access for baptisms, and noise pollution regulations. City officials promised to address these concerns, paving the way for a harmonious partnership.
