The Salvation Army celebrated a milestone in pastoral education with its 7thgraduation ceremony, where a combined class of 27 students from the Class of 2023 (Reflectors of Holiness) and the Class of 2024 (Defenders of Justice) were officially conferred with their qualifications.
The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe, who officiated the conferring of awards, alongside senior Salvation Army leadership. Among the distinguished guests was Colonel Tinaye Mambo, who represented the church’s leadership and underscored the significance of the partnership between the University and the Officer Training College.
In his address, Colonel Mambo expressed heartfelt gratitude to the University of Zimbabwe for its role in shaping the academic and spiritual journey of the officers. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the church and the university, noting that such partnerships strengthen the quality of education and enhance the preparation of officers for effective ministry.
“I also wish to express our sincere appreciation to the University of Zimbabwe for its valued partnership with the Officer Training College. This relationship strengthens our commitment to quality education and enhances the preparation of our officers for effective ministry and service to society,” he said.
The ceremony highlighted not only academic achievement but also the spiritual mission of the graduates. The dual identity of the classes Reflectors of Holiness and Defenders of Justice symbolized the balance between personal sanctification and social responsibility that the Salvation Army seeks to instill in its officers.
For the graduates, the day marked the culmination of years of rigorous study, spiritual discipline, and practical ministry training. Their success reflects the institution’s dedication to producing leaders who are equipped to serve both the church and wider society.
The presence of the University of Zimbabwe’s leadership reinforced the credibility of the program and demonstrated the value of integrating theological education with academic excellence. The collaboration ensures that officers are not only spiritually grounded but also intellectually prepared to address the challenges of modern ministry.
As the graduates step into their new roles, they carry with them the responsibility of living out the values of holiness and justice in their communities. The ceremony served as a reminder that education in ministry is not merely about certificates, but about equipping leaders to serve faithfully and effectively.
The 7th graduation ceremony thus stands as a testament to the enduring partnership between the Salvation Army and the University of Zimbabwe and to the commitment of both institutions to nurturing leaders who will make a meaningful impact in society.
