Jeremiah 29:11 offers a comforting assurance of God’s good intentions towards His people: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
In this verse, God reassures His people through the prophet Jeremiah that He has plans for their welfare and not for harm. His thoughts towards them are filled with peace, hope, and prosperity, rather than evil or destruction.

“I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” declares the LORD, emphasising His omniscience and intimate knowledge of His people. God’s plans are not arbitrary or uncertain; they are purposeful and carefully crafted to bring about His desired outcome for His children.
“Thoughts of peace, and not of evil,” affirms God’s desire to bring about shalom – a sense of wholeness, well-being, and prosperity – in the lives of His people. His intentions are rooted in love and compassion, seeking their ultimate good and flourishing.
“To give you an expected end,” reveals God’s promise of a hopeful future for His people. Despite their current circumstances, God assures them that He has a plan and a purpose for them, one that will bring about a fulfilling and satisfying conclusion.
As we reflect on this verse, let us take comfort in the knowledge that God’s plans for us are good. Let us trust in His wisdom and sovereignty, knowing that He is working all things together for our ultimate good and His glory.
