Members of the Zimbabwe Women Parliamentary Caucus attended a high-level policy dialogue workshop yesterday on the alignment of the SADC model law on child marriages.

Some of the key things which were mentioned related to the continued rise of Child marriage which remain a problem in Southern Africa due to a variety of factors which include:
- Poverty,
- Gender inequality,
- Tradition,
- Insecurity,
- Limited education, and
- Lack of adequate legal frameworks in the member states, most of which are inconsistent.
In at least five countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), almost 40% of children are married before they are 18 years of age.
34% of girls in Zimbabwe are married before the age of 18 and 5% are married before their 15th birthday.
