Speaking during a Christmas party to fellow men, Mr Zanamwe, a church leader in the Salvation Army in Bindura highlighted in honour, the vital backbone roles played by women in various families.
“Many families have been promoted up the ladder economically through the hardworking woman who toils day and night to provide for the families,” Mr. Zanamwe noted.
He gave a practical example of vegetable vendors who move around with baskets of vegetables and other garden produce, selling and providing for their families, often with young children in tow.
The positive sentiments echoed by Mr Zanamwe in recognition of women’s contributions to their families and communities is in line with the United Nations’ emphasis on the importance of valuing and recognizing the roles of women in society. As stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.” The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) also emphasizes the importance of recognizing and valuing the contributions of women to society.
Mr. Magwaza also highlighted the economic empowerment of women through the power of association. He noted that women are doing well economically, socially and church leadership while men are lagging behind due to over-analysis. Women are taking over in many respect because they are ready to share and act unlike men.
It was agreed that women need to be supported in every respect because they can bring good return on the table as they have a transformative power. Men were encouraged to live harmoniously with their wives in marriages as it is God’s intention.
