In a bid to foster peace and unity within communities, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) spearheaded a Sport for Peace Netball and Soccer Tournament in Mwacheta ward 16, Chipinge district.
The event, co-facilitated by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development, and the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, attracted a diverse crowd, particularly young people, from three wards.

Recognizing the significance of sports as a catalyst for promoting respect and tolerance, the tournament aimed to strengthen social capital, a crucial component for enhancing economic empowerment opportunities.
Chipinge, like many regions, faces challenges of youth migration to neighboring countries, particularly South Africa, due to limited economic prospects. This cycle perpetuates poverty and vulnerability within the community.
During the tournament, Reverend Mpunza from the United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe (UCCZ) underscored the importance of embracing the values of peace and social cohesion, drawing inspiration from Ecclesiastes 4:9-10.
The ZCC is actively involved in the Reducing Causes of Flight Program across three communities in Chipinge district, with support from partners such as the Evangelical Church of Wutternburg (ECW), Act for Peace, Canadian Foodgrains Bank, UNICEF Zimbabwe, and The United Church of Canada.
