Senior Archbishop Professor Eunor Guti of Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Forward in Faith Ministries International (ZAOGA FIFMI) sounded the alarm on the growing scourge of drug and substance abuse in the country.
Speaking during the recent Ezekiel Guti Day celebrations held on 2 May 2026 at Grange in Harare, commemorating the late founder of Forward in Faith Ministries International Archbishop Ezekiel Guti, she emphasized the urgent need for the church and communities to join forces in tackling this menace that is ravaging the youth.
“It is worrying that those peddling these deadly substances are not young people, but adults themselves,” she said, stressing the need for law enforcement to step in.
Professor Eunor Guti further called on the church to stand firm in prayer, providing spiritual support to shield young people from this destructive path.
The Forward in Faith Ministries International has already taken proactive steps, establishing rehabilitation centers offering young people a chance to break free from addiction. “We are not just about deliverance; we are about empowerment,” she said, highlighting the life skills training provided to help young people become self-sufficient.
With drug and substance abuse threatening to undermine Zimbabwe’s economic growth and devalue its education system, Professor Eunor Guti’s message was clear “It is time for collective action to save the youth and secure the nation’s future,” she added.
A 2019 study by the Zimbabwe National Drug Abuse Council found that one in five young people between 15 and 24 had used drugs at least once. The Zimbabwe Multi-Sectoral Drug and Substance Abuse Plan 2024-2030, approved by Cabinet in April 2024 highlight the growing threat of drug abuse to the nation’s health, security, economy, and social stability.
