The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) recently joined government officials, civil society representatives, and development partners at a stakeholder consultation that was held in Harare to develop the country’s National Gender Equality Profile.
The meeting, held on April 28, 2026, aimed to create a comprehensive profile that reflects the realities of women and girls across the country, particularly those facing multiple forms of discrimination.
The profile is expected to inform policy, strengthen accountability, and support inclusive and gender-responsive development, aligning with national and global development frameworks.
“This is a critical step towards ensuring that no woman or girl is left behind,” said participants at the meeting, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based data to drive progress.
The consultation brought together representatives from the Ministry of Women Affairs, UN Women, and other stakeholders to build a unified approach to advancing gender equality in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe’s National Gender Equality profile shows some progress, but there is still work to be done, according to statistics, as of February 2024, women hold 28.9% of seats in parliament, a positive step towards gender equality.
