A Mother’s Love: Worth Honoring

On May 11, 2025, Chiwaridzo Corps, under the visionary leadership of Major Shayamano, hosted a powerful drama rendition on Mother’s Day. The performance highlighted contrasting values, sparking reflection and introspection among the audience.
A Tale of Two Sisters The drama told the story of two sisters with vastly different approaches to honoring their mother. The older sister, caught up in her church activities, refused to visit their mother, citing superstitions and claiming she was too busy with “church business.” In contrast, the younger sister prioritized visiting their mother despite financial constraints, demonstrating selflessness and devotion that warmed the heart.
The Younger Sister’s Devotion Guided by biblical principles, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land…” (Exodus 20:12), the younger sister recognized the importance of honoring her mother. Despite struggling financially, she made it a point to visit her mother regularly, bringing small gifts and spending quality time with her. This selfless act was a testament to her character and commitment to family values.
The Older Sister’s Neglect The older sister’s neglect revealed a deeper issue – a lack of appreciation for their mother’s love and sacrifices. This neglect not only hurt their mother but also potentially invited unforeseen consequences. It raised important questions about the priorities of modern life and the importance of honoring one’s parents.
Many parents suffer in silence, unable to afford basic necessities like sugar. This story prompts us to ask: When did we last visit our mother? Are we using church activities as a cover to neglect our parents? “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7-8). These questions challenge us to reflect on our values and priorities.
Blessings and Curses Let’s recognize that blessings often come from honoring our parents, while neglecting them can lead to unforeseen consequences. Our mothers’ love and sacrifices are a source of divine blessings. Let’s rethink our priorities and honor our parents, who brought us into this world. May the lessons from this drama guide us to appreciate our mothers’ love and sacrifices.
