St Don Bosco Primary School was recently transformed into a sanctuary of song as the Roman Catholic Church’s Masvingo Diocese wrapped up its 2026 Choral Music Competitions with voices raised in praise and unity.
The air was thick with harmony, devotion, and the beating of drums as 28 choirs from parishes and missions across the diocese converged to lift their talents before God and community. From rural outposts to urban parishes, the competition became more than a contest, it was an act of evangelization through music.
When the final scores were tallied, Beitbridge Parish Choir struck the highest note of the day. Led by conductor Chimbangu, who also scooped the Best Conductor Award, the choir amassed 992 points to clinch 1st place. Their performance, marked by tight discipline and spiritual depth, left adjudicators and the crowd in awe.
St Peter and Paul followed closely with 971.5 points under the steady direction of Denzel, while gracious hosts Don Bosco, conducted by Allan, and completed the podium with 964.5 points. The hosts’ warm welcome matched the quality of their singing, embodying the spirit of Christian fellowship.
Adjudicators praised not just vocal skill, but the choral discipline and spiritual expression that turned each performance into worship.
“You could feel the presence of God in the hall,” one adjudicator noted. “These young people were not just singing; they were praying.”
Beyond the podium, the competition celebrated growth and dedication across the diocese.
Majada was named the most improved choir, Maraire earned the biggest rural choir, and Ngundu’s young conductor was honored as best young conductor.
The full roll call of participating choirs from Ndanga and Berejena to Good Shepherd Chiredzi, Gokomere, Silveira, and St Francis Majada painted a picture of a diocese singing with one voice.
Diocesan officials extended heartfelt congratulations to every choir, conductor, and supporter who made the 2026 edition a resounding success.
They reaffirmed that the annual competition remains a cornerstone for fostering unity, deepening faith, and drawing more youth into active service in the Church.
