Zimbabwean businessman and socialite Wicknell “Sir Wicknell” Chivayo has been commended for his generous and heart-warming gesture of acknowledging local gospel musicians who significantly contributed to the gospel landscape of Zimbabwe by gifting them with brand new vehicles.
The three gospel musicians who were gifted are Baba Mechanic Manyeruke, Mai Olivia Charamba and Pastor Leonard Karikoga Zhakata.
Speaking upon receiving the gift Mai Charamba said “I am out of words but I just want to appreciate Sir Wicknell for this, may God continue to bless you. I want to appreciate everyone who support my music, my husband, family and the producer,” she said.
Pastor Charles Charamba said “We are grateful for being instrumental in this way. There are some people who think that Mai Charamba is not an autonomous entity musically and they sometimes recognise her in a despising way but Sir Wicknell you showed that she is a candidate on her own in the gospel music industry,” he said.
Baba Mechanic Manyeruke revealed his joy towards the recognition that the music of the legends has gained especially in this generation.
“I am happy that at last our children have come to realise all the efforts we have been putting in this music industry. I am grateful to Sir Wicknell, may God bless him more. We were not expecting this and we were thinking that what we have is enough,” he said.
Meanwhile, posting about this gesture Sir Wicknell said “As i had planned to celebrate my birthday uniquely this year, I decided to honour three outstanding music icons who always inspired me and my mother during the toughest times of our lives. The songs are “ndinamatire ndigokunamatirawo” by Baba Manyeruke,”ndiri munana” by Mai Charamba and “hupenyu mutoro” by Leonard Zhakata, these songs gave us hope and strength to persevere,” he said
Baba Mechanic Manyeruke has produced over 25 albums and Mai Charamba rose to prominence with her 2000 debut album titled “Amen”.
Sir Wicknell has extended cars. Lorries and buses and cash to various people recently.
