Various church denominations, together with the Angel of Hope Foundation led by First Lady Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa, held a prayer convention in Tynwald North, Harare to console Ronald Mujuru, who lost his family on their way to the Easter conference.
Ronald Mujuru was surrounded by his relatives, who have stood with him during the difficult period. Community members from various church denominations attended the gathering despite the showers, united in prayer for the souls of the six.
Several religious leaders from Apostolic and Zion sects, Pentecostal churches, traditional and mainline churches, as well as Muslim representatives from all the country’s 10 provinces, lifted their voices in prayer, calling for divine strength, healing and comfort upon the bereaved family.
The meeting featured a praise and worship team drawn from different churches, with spiritual hymns and songs of worship leading the service. After the worship segment, participants knelt to intercede—praying with deep emotion and heartfelt concern—asking that the departed find eternal peace.
“We are not expecting any human voice other than that of the creator,” said one of the church leaders.
Speeches from community members followed, offering comfort and support to Ronald and the bereaved family.
Notable church representatives included Christ Ministries, the Baptist Church, the Salvation Army, the Roman Catholic Church, the United Methodist Church, and the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Glad Tidings, Celebration Church, Anglican, ZAOGA, Christ Embassy, Grace Life Network, United Families International, End Time Messages, Harvest House, and the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe.
“Among all to be protected, guard your heart jealously,” summed the church leaders’ messages to Ronald.
Ronald Mujuru is currently grieving the loss of his wife, Lilian, and their five children, Nokutenda, Makanaka, Ronald Junior, Rufaro Shalom and Kayden, who tragically died in a car accident on the Harare-Masvingo Highway near Mvuma on April 2, 2026. The family was heading to a church conference when their Toyota Corolla collided head-on with a Mercedes Benz truck, killing all six occupants instantly.
First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa visited Mujuru to offer condolences, and Transport Minister Felix Mhona also paid a visit, urging citizens to refrain from filming accident scenes and sharing them on social media. The government has expressed its condolences and is providing support to the bereaved family.
Dynamos Football Club, of which Mujuru is a loyal supporter, has also shown solidarity, with players and officials visiting him and dedicating a match to the family’s memory.
