Today’s morning devotion is about loving women as we love ourselves, based on Ephesians 5:28.
This verse in Ephesians is part of a larger passage about marriage, and how husbands and wives should treat each other.
As husbands, we are to love our wives like we love ourselves. This is an incredibly high standard that God has set for us.
So let’s look at three key ideas about how we can love women like we love ourselves. First, just as the Bible speaks of the importance of self-care, we should care for the women in our lives with the same level of respect and love.
This means valuing their wants and needs, and making sure that we are always showing them kindness and respect. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-5, we are reminded that love is patient and kind, and that it is not easily angered or resentful.
We should strive to show the women in our lives this same kind of love, and to always be willing to forgive. Second, the Bible tells us that to have a successful relationship, both partners must be willing to work together.
This means being willing to compromise and make sacrifices for the other person. We see this principle illustrated in Philippians 2:4 “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
When we put the needs of the women in our lives before our own, we demonstrate our commitment to them, and we show that we truly love them.
Finally, just as the Bible tells us to honor our parents, we should honor the women in our lives. This means respecting their opinions, listening to their advice, and being mindful of their feelings.
We see this principle illustrated in Proverbs 31:28 – “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
When we honor the women in our lives, we demonstrate our commitment to them, and we show that we truly love them.
In conclusion, God calls us to love women as we love ourselves. This means caring for them with patience and kindness, working together with them, and honoring them.
As we strive to do this, may God bless us with successful relationships. Amen.
