Our morning devotion today comes from Psalm 5:11 – “But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.”
Let us take time to reflect on the great grace and mercy of the Lord, and why we should smile and rejoice in Him for our salvation is here. As we reflect on this scripture, there are three key ideas that stand out.
The first is to recognize the Lord as our refuge. The psalmist reminds us that when we take refuge in the Lord, we should be glad and sing for joy.
This is echoed in Psalm 27:5, “For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.”
Here, we see the Lord as our protector, offering us a safe place to take refuge when times are tough.
The second key idea is to recognize that the Lord’s protection brings us joy. We should not fear the trials and tribulations of life, but rather find joy and peace in the Lord’s protection.
The book of Isaiah reminds us of this truth – “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” (Isaiah 26:3). We can be confident that the Lord’s protection will bring us joy and peace even in the midst of life’s storms.
The third key idea is to recognize that rejoicing in the Lord is an act of faith. The book of James encourages us to “consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds” (James 1:2).
We can look to Jesus as an example of faith through joy – even when he was facing the cross, he still rejoiced in God’s will and knew it was for a greater good.
So today, let us rejoice in the Lord and be glad for his salvation is here! As we look ahead to the future, may we remember to take refuge in the Lord, find joy in his protection, and rejoice in him with faith.
