In an interview with H-Metro, Star fm head of programming, Steve Vickers said the event turned out to be great and amazing despite facing challenges.
“It was a world class set-up, it was a great show, the sound system was fantastic. The way the stage was set-up with that catwalk kind of thing, going out into the crowd was brilliant because it meant that the crowd had a chance to interact more closely with these artists, who have produced music that has touched people’s lives”
“The withdrawal of supporting acts did have some impact and the social media campaign did have an effect and there would have been many more people there last night, no doubt. The concert, saw local acts such as Vocal Ex, Ezekiel Paul and Covenant Praise among others warming the stage for the American musicians.
Singer Ezekiel Paul opened the concert, setting a worshipful atmosphere that moved many to prayer, heightening their anticipation for an evening of spiritual connection. The New Life Covenant Church choir, aptly named Covenant Praise, followed with an energetic performance and stunning harmonies that kept the crowd on their feet. Before the main acts took to the stage, Bishop Tudor Bismark blessed the event with a prayer, and Rorisang led the audience in praying for Zimbabwe and its economy to continue prospering.
Franklin, affectionately referred to as ‘Uncle Kirk’ due to his pioneering role in urban contemporary gospel, took the audience on a nostalgic journey with classics like ‘My Life Is in Your Hands,’ ‘Imagine Me,’ ‘I Smile,’ and ‘Hosanna Forever.’
