The installation ceremony was a momentous occasion, marking a new chapter in the Salvation Army’s mission in Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Madagascar. Retired Commissioner Chigariro, who conducted the installation on behalf of the General, urged the new leaders to practise servant leadership and to have a listening ear.
“The church is looking to you for moral and spiritual guidance,” she said. “Be approachable leaders, treating all congregants as equals, regardless of their wealth or status. Lead with humility and compassion, and always seek guidance from God. It was God who has chosen you to lead the church, so do not fear, as God will be with you.”
Retired Commissioner Chigariro also exhorted the leaders to be torchbearers, saying their conduct has a strong bearing on the direction which the church will take. “Your actions have a ripple effect,” she said. “If you sneeze, the whole body coughs. Be mindful of your behaviour, as it will influence the entire church.”
In his message, Commissioner Daniel Kasuso, Territorial Commander challenged the Salvationists to rise and move to where God wills.
“Let us be united as a church and move according to the will of God as Jacob exhorted his family to cleanse itself and leave for Bethel to and build an altar for God. Let us rise and move to a new place with a new mind and attitude where God will do a new thing for us. We need to listen to the voice of God who will keep and protect us,
God is looking for a praying Church, we must remove anything smacking on our Christian life to be effective in the kingdom of God because we serve a jealous God” said Commissioner Daniel Kasuso.
Commissioner Tracey Kasuso, Territorial President for Women’s Ministries reiterated the same message of unity.
“One tree cannot be a forest, together trees form a formidable thicket, I urge you all to be united and we work together as an army of God, “said Commissioner Tracey Kasuso.
Tafara Chitsiga and Kelvin Makaza of Nzvimbo Corps in Chiweshe Division said they were happy to be part of the historic and momentous occasion. Perched on top of the mountain, they tried to get a good view of the occasion. “It was so refreshing to see the dedication of the youths in witnessing the historic event,” they said.
Mr. Gwenzi of Kakora Corps shared his thoughts on the occasion, saying, “This has been a wonderful occasion for us, the people of Chiweshe, to host such a big gathering. It will leave a lasting impression, and many souls are going to turn up to Jesus.”
Despite the scorching heat, many attendees braved the conditions to witness the historic occasion. One such attendee, Mrs. Khumalo, said, “I couldn’t miss this opportunity to witness the installation of our new leaders. I am proud to be part of the Salvation Army family.”
The Salvation Army Church, one of the leading churches in Zimbabwe, has a significant footprint in Chiweshe, where the installation took place.
