On 24-25 April 2024, the World Council of Churches (WCC) and its partners in specialised ministries will convene for the annual “Working Together” gathering.
This event serves as a platform to enhance collaboration and mutual support between the WCC and its specialised ministries, with a focus on programmatic work, planning, and reporting mechanisms.
Representatives from specialised ministries, along with WCC staff responsible for various functions such as program development, finance, relationship building, reporting, fundraising, and planning, will participate in the gathering.
Facilitated by a core group of specialised ministries leadership and WCC officials, Working Together aims to foster deeper collaboration and facilitate the exchange of updates, best practices, and experiences among participants.
A key highlight of this year’s gathering is the opportunity for specialised ministries to gain a better understanding of the WCC’s programmatic structure within the framework of the WCC Strategic Plan 2023-2030.
Additionally, participants will receive updates on the WCC’s financial status and the Green Village project, which underscores the organisation’s commitment to sustainability.
WCC General Secretary Rev. Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay expressed gratitude for the valuable contributions of specialised ministries and emphasised their essential roles in advancing the ecumenical movement.
Pillay highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing critical issues and promoting unity within the global Christian community.
In a new development for this year, representatives had the opportunity to participate in an online strategic orientation on 11 April.
This pre-meeting session allowed participants to delve deeper into the WCC’s strategic plan, ensuring that their time together at the Working Together gathering is optimised for meaningful engagement, exchanges, discussions, and deliberations.
Rev. Nathan Day Wilson, WCC liaison with specialised ministries, underscored the significance of these collaborative efforts in a world marked by division.
He expressed gratitude for the role of specialised ministries in bearing witness to God’s intended wholeness and emphasised the importance of working together to promote unity and reconciliation.
