The team’s last warm-up match ended in a 32-run loss against Scotland. However, rather than dampening their morale, the defeat has only fueled their determination to perform well in the upcoming qualifiers.
Sharne Mayers, the team’s opening batter, expressed the team’s overall goal of qualifying for the T20 World Cup and emphasised their focus on taking each game as it comes.
“Our first match is against Vanuatu, and that is our big focus,” she stated, highlighting the team’s commitment to approaching each match with determination and focus.
Drawn in Group B alongside formidable opponents such as hosts United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Ireland, and Vanuatu, the Lady Chevrons are among ten nations competing for the two remaining slots at the prestigious T20 World Cup, to be held in Bangladesh later this year.
The team’s first challenge in the qualifiers will be against Vanuatu, scheduled to take place this Thursday at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
This match marks the beginning of what promises to be a fiercely competitive tournament, with each team vying for the opportunity to showcase their talent on the world stage.
Despite the tough competition ahead, the Lady Chevrons are determined to demonstrate their skills and prove themselves worthy of securing a coveted spot at the T20 World Cup.
With a positive attitude and unwavering commitment, they are ready to face whatever challenges come their way and strive for success in the qualifiers.
As they embark on this journey, the Lady Chevrons carry with them the hopes and support of cricket fans across Zimbabwe.
