Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
Today, our morning devotion is basedon that you are almost there, hang on. As we look to the scripture Jeremiah 40:31 for guidance, we can see that God is telling us that strength and renewal come through waiting on the Lord.
This is a wonderful reminder to us all that when we are feeling weary, we can remain steadfast in our faith and wait on God.We see this same sentiment echoed in James 5:8 which reads “Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord.
See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.”
Here we see that God is calling us to patience and to wait on him. We can draw strength from this and know that when we are feeling weary, we can look to God for comfort and renewal.
We can also look to the example of Jesus in Mark 6:30-31 which reads “The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught.
And he said to them, ‘Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.’ For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.” Here we see Jesus himself reminding us of the importance of rest and renewal.
Jesus knew that his disciples were feeling weary and he called them away for a time of rest and renewal. In the same way, God is calling us to take time to rest and draw strength from him.
Finally, we can take inspiration from the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19:11-13 which reads “Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.
Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind.
And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.” In this story we can see that while Elijah was feeling weary, he was able to find comfort in a gentle whisper from God in the midst of chaos.
This is an important reminder for us all that even when things seem hard or overwhelming, God is still there with us providing us with strength and renewal in his gentle whisper.
In conclusion, we have seen today that when we are feeling weary, we can draw strength from our faith in God’s promise to renew our strength. We can take comfort in knowing that God is always there with us providing us with strength and renewal when we need it most.
So let us remember these words from Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
Amen.
