Good morning everyone, let us turn to the book of Philippians chapter 3 verses 13-14, which says:” Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
The Lord has given us the gift of today and every moment is an opportunity to use it for his glory. Today our big idea is that the past is your yesterday and your tomorrow is your now.
Let us look at three key ideas that will help us understand this big idea and how we can use it to our advantage.
First, the past is your yesterday and it should be remembered with fondness. We can learn from our past mistakes and use them to grow into a better version of ourselves.
We should take the lessons we have learned and let go of the pain.
In Deuteronomy 8:2 it says “Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.”
Second, your tomorrow is your now and you should use each moment to its fullest. We should not take for granted our opportunities and use them to serve the Lord.
In Ecclesiastes 9:10 it says “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.”
Finally, we should always remember that the Lord is with us as we look to our future. We should trust in the Lord’s plan for our lives even when we don’t understand it.
In Isaiah 41:10 it says “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
In conclusion, we can use our past as a way to learn and grow so that we can be better prepared for our future. We should use each moment to its fullest and always remember that the Lord is with us as we look to our future.
Let us go forth in His name and use our yesterday as a tool for our tomorrows.
Amen.
