One of the project’s key components involves the training of lead farmers and climate change champions, among whom is Dube Mkombwe.
As a lead farmer in Saba Ward, Dube has received training and support to cultivate small grain seeds suitable for Binga’s climate conditions. These seeds are vital for sustaining agriculture in the region.
Additionally, Dube serves as a custodian of a rain gauge, an essential tool for monitoring rainfall patterns and trends in the area.
This data enables local farmers and the community to make informed decisions about farming practices, ensuring optimal adaptation to changing climate conditions.
The climate change champions, including Dube, have undergone training in climate change information dissemination, early warning communication, and early action.
Equipped with this knowledge, they play a proactive role in empowering local farmers to mitigate the effects of climate change and adapt their livelihood strategies accordingly.
