The Pentecostal Assemblies of Zimbabwe church (PAOZ) has emerged as a beacon of hope for the most vulnerable members of society through its Village of Hope children’s home.

Located in Good Hope Harare, the institution provides not only spiritual guidance and support but also inclusive health and nutrition services, high-quality basic education, and comprehensive social protection for orphaned and vulnerable children, ensuring a supported transition from adolescence to adulthood.

In an interview with Pastor Richard Chimbetete, director of this children’s home, he expressed the church’s unwavering commitment to a holistic care ministry that aims to bring lasting hope to orphaned and vulnerable children, empowering them to become positive contributing members of society.

“Our aim as an organisation is to be a holistic care ministry that reaches out to orphaned and vulnerable children, to bring lasting hope to the children so that they become positive contributing members of society.

“We currently have 9 children’s homes with a capacity of 72 children. We care for over 450 children under our sponsorship program with the rest staying with relatives and family. We provide the basic care needs of the child whether resident or non-resident. Our homes are set up to accommodate a maximum of 8 children, 4 boys, and 4 girls, under the supervision of a Housemother. Our resident children are seconded to us by the Department of Social Services,” said Pastor Chimbetete.

The church not only assists these children with material things but also offers spiritual counselling, which is an integral part of the organisation’s mission.

“Bible education and a spiritual atmosphere that may lead to faith in God through Christ Jesus is one aspect of holistic care we emphasise. Many of the children who come to our centres require spiritual healthcare. Through prayer and spiritual counselling, the spirit of the child can experience healing. We have a church on site that all resident and non-resident children attend every weekend.

“Our children are exposed to the Bible every day they visit the centre as we have class devotions every morning before lessons begin. Once a week, every child attends chapel services led by our discipleship team with an emphasis on one theme each month. Whenever there are exams, prayers are conducted for the children before exams begin, ” he said.

Established in 2002, Village of Hope stands as a child-friendly centre where vulnerable children receive compassionate care under the auspices of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Zimbabwe.

The impact of Village of Hope reverberates throughout the community, as it not only provides a safe and nurturing environment for children but also equips them with the tools to build a brighter future. Through the unwavering dedication of the church and the tireless efforts of the organisation, countless lives have been transformed, offering a powerful testament to the profound impact of compassion and determination in the face of adversity.
